     From UNO2006:

There's a new Clip of the Day online, the longest one yet, featuring Mythago working against Haze's arrowhead zone in the Division 1 semi-final, stringing together over 40 passes and then throwing some swill into the endzone.

I've also put up on the videos page, the following:
Shocker at Paganello (trailer), 13-17th April 2006
8mb, 1min

Short trailer for a video being made by Tom and Loz, following Shocker's games and parties at Paganello 2006. Features some dancing, drops, and a sweet grab by Bob which was unfortunately instantly called out by everyone.
Enjoy!

     From UNO2006:

UU2006  ->  UNO 2006

It's been decided to change the name of the upcoming DVD to UNO 2006, or just UNO ('u-(")nO).

It's coming along nicely...

I'd also like to quickly promote the SE 2001-2006 DVD, which will be shipping soon.

UU2006 DVD + Clip of the Day page

I've got round to making a rough webpage for the UU2006 DVD I'm working on. Production will take an uncertain amount of time - weeks, probably months - which I'm helping pass faster by releasing numerous 'Clip of the Day' videos which can be found here.

Production is going well - at the moment I'm half way through editting together the UMON final's footage from two angles.

South-East teams impress in Division 2

Uni Open Nationals has been and gone - here're the SE's results:
Div1
7. Strange Blue
10. UCL
14. Brunel
Average finishing position: 10.3

Div2
2. Mohawks
3. Sublime
8. Aye-Aye
Average finishing position: 4.3
We were quite unfortunate in Division 1, as South-East teams kept meeting each other in important early games - Strange Blue knocked Brunel out of the top 8 in a crossover match, and then UCL (who spent Saturday in a Pool Of Death, containing teams finishing 3rd, 4th and 8th) knocked them down into the bottom 4 in a quarter final.

An all-SE Div2 final was prevented by Mohawks meeting Sublime in a tight semi-final match which saw Mohawks coming back from 4-1 down to win the game by 3. Sublime went on to beat #1 seeds and Southsea rivals Skunks, whilst Mohawks were narrowly defeated 11-9 in the Div2 final by UCD from Dublin.

The Div1 title was won by Ro Sham Bo, who also won Mixed Nationals last weekend. I was recording footage all weekend and intend to release a DVD around late September/October time - until then I'll be releasing short 'Clip of the Day' featurettes to keep providing you with your fix. See the first two here: BeavansLayoutD and RoShamHuckAndLay. You'll definitely need the new DivX for these to work.

A re-design is in order too, as this page is becoming increasingly cluttered. I'll have to learn some more about web programming first... Anyway, soon there should be a page devoted to the UU2006 DVD, but until then check out the DVD I'll send you in exchange for a £7 donation here.

Nationals + Division 2 this weekend!

Cardiff are hosting Uni Outdoor Nationals this weekend... it's the first time this rather professional venue has been used for Ultimate, and it's looking like it'll be absolutely awesome. Just be quiet on the way back from the party, folks.

From the South-East competing in Division 1, best of luck to Strange Blue, Brunel and UCL. With a good chance of kicking some ass we have Mohawks, Sublime and Aye-Aye battling in Division 2.

The results of these Nationals will directly affect teams seedings in both indoor and outdoor regionals next year, so plenty depends on every last point! Go out there and do the South-East proud...

New USWIR video released, UWIN video in production

Mac has knocked out an extended highlights video of the University Southern Women's Indoor Regionals event, following the events on Saturday. It's a hefty file, but one you can show the ladies on your team currently & next year to get them enthusiastic about getting involved in women's ultimate. Lasts all of 26 minutes, too.
University Southern Women's Indoor Regionals, Jan 28/29th 2006
250mb, 26min
Too big to download?

A huge video of the biggest indoor women's event of the year, this, the first of the three videos made by Mac, has footage from a number of different games played on Saturday, to the sound of jazz. This was the first year running Uni Indoor Regional qualifiers, and as you can gather from the video, it turned out to be a resounding success.
Download DivX to watch.

At the moment I'm working on a video of Uni Women's Indoor Nationals, it'll be about 20 minutes long, with great attention to detail, such as introducing players when they first appear on the screen, an abundance of slow motion replays, constantly updated scores, and a funky intro which will grab your attention... 15 hours work and counting... might be finished next week...

New SEULL video in buildup to Regionals

In the midst of all the mounting tension and anticipation in the run up to the much lauded SE Outdoor Regionals in Cambridge this weekend, Mac has knocked out another fantastic Ladder League highlights video. You don't want to miss this one..
Ladder League at Brunel, 22 Jan 2006
80mb, 7:53min

Filmed at one of the last South-East Ladder League events of 2005/2006, this well editted highlights video captures plenty of action, for the most part following the eventual champions the Mohawks as they defeat Brunel, LSE and Holloway, as well as containing some action from Brunel vs dD, and Mohawks 2 vs Roehampton.
There's a great feeling to this video, which seems to sum up the essence of the Ladder League nicely. It's a big download but well worth it. Made by Mac.

Mohawks may have won the Ladder League (and look hot in this video...), but can they achieve the double this weekend? How will Indoor Regional Champions Strange Blue fare outdoors against the now much practiced London-based and more southern teams? Have Sublime still got what it takes to compete for a place at Nationals? Will the fresh faces in Brunel lead them to another victory, or will Aye-Aye push them out of the top three this year? Can Roehampton achieve a place at Division 2 Nationals in their first year of competing, or will the battle be between Thrown, Disc Doctors, UCL, LSE and Surrey? How about Mohawks 2 causing a few upsets?

Regionals... it's just around the corner... bring it on!

Flurry of activity at the end of SEULL season 2

Two more Ladder League events have been organised in the last week, one by LSE for 25th Feb, and the other by Brunel for 5th March.
Regionals is on the 11/12th March, so it has been suggested that the Brunel Ladder League event is made to be a 'grand finale' as it were, with the winner being announced and the SEULL prizes for the season being presented at the end of the day... read more...
Hi everyone,

Equilibrium is pleased to announce that we have secured 3 pitches at our LSE Berrylands sports grounds for some full day ladder league action on Saturday 25th February! It is 2 weeks before SE Uni regionals and would be a good opportunity for all the teams to get some game practice before we all head up to Cambridge.

We are prepared to take up to 8 teams, and can definitely guarantee a minimum of 4 matches each if 8 teams do show up, so sign up quickly by emailing me back!

Here are the directions to the LSE sports grounds:

Jimmy D from Holloway Hammers has put together a three minute Ultimate video containing action from last weeks SEULL event at Roehampton University.
The highlights feature a game between Holloway J and Mohawks 2, so go check out the videos page and download it for your viewing pleasure.

It won't be long before some 26 minute long videos from USWIR will be available for download too, and there's murmurs about a DVD purchase possibility containing lots more footage...

A few updates for you all to peruse, from a number of different sources:

     From Women's news:

With the good weather fast approaching, its time to announce the next date of the highly anticipated London Women's Skills Day.
For those of you who've never been to one before, its a day of drills and skills workshops where the leading ladies in Ultimate come together to share their knowledge and experience of outdoor ultimate.
As usual, beginners, intermediate and experienced lasses from all divisions (junior, university, open, mixed) are all are welcome...

The date: 19th March, 10:30am Meet for 11am start.
Venue: Clapham South (more details can be found below.)

If you need any more information, or would like to register your/your teams interest, drop me an email here
In advance, a BIG thankyou to ICENI and BLISS for running the day...

See you all there,
Gemma.

For more info on the Women's Skills Day, check out the Women's news page.

There's been plenty of action in the Ladder Leagues; here's a snippet of a report written by Adriano from the Midlands:

     From MULL news:

On the 28th of January the first event ever of the MULL took place in Victoria Park, Leicester.
Jesters 1, Jesters 2 and Demons were joined by Random Fling, Bears and Haze for a full day of Ultimate.
The schedule consisted in every team playing 4 games against each other, and an hour break at noon for lunch. As every team had to play 4 games it meant that Jesters 1 avoided the clash with Jesters2, Haze didn't play Bears and Demons didn't get to play Random Fling.

The first set of games saw a very exciting game between Jesters 1 and Random Fling. Fling took 3 quick points as the game started, but Jesters managed to get a few scores in a row and keep the game close until the end. Eventually RF won 7:6. On the other pitches Bears confortably won 15:0 against a very inexperienced Jesters2 squad lacking any handlers, and Haze showed some great ultimate by winning 12:1 against Demons...
It's good to see Ladder League events starting off elsewhere in the country - be sure to keep an eye on them all by bookmarking the ULL Main page. A little closer to home, here's some news from SEULL:

     From SEULL news:

Roehampton hosted the most controversial Ladder League event so far, provoking the police to get involved in SEULL - something we had all known was going to happen sooner or later.
"You can't play here", the tall officer announced assertively, after parking his vehicle and sauntering over to the pitch where a bitter battle between giants Roehampton 2 and Mohawks 2 had just been fought out. "These pitches," he says, gesturing towards the fields, "They are for rugby only."

After a brief gunfight, gangs - I mean - teams from Mohawks, Holloway, UCL and Roehampton retreated to the other side of the oh-so-precious rugby fields to continue their games. Brunel, who we assume had been hiding in the woods until the police left the scene, arrived shortly, and joined in the action. Plenty of exciting games were played...read more
That about wraps it up for now - SE Outdoor Regionals 05/06 has it's own website and is open for teams to enter - check it out here - oh, there's also been some action on the 3 Pint Challenge table, as the South West have entered the fray!

Special mention to Sicko & Rosie for their co-ed effort of 12.88 seconds.

Charity Match:
The South West beat the South East in an exciting charity match on Sunday morning. Polly from Skunks achieved the most points with her extravagant, crowd-pleasing play, with Pole (Brunel) & Rosie (Skunks) making the most accurate bets. In total we raised £21 for charity from this match.

Mohawk Auction:
The auction was a frenzy of buying and selling of the funtime Mohawk guys;

Kimmy: £5.00 (ejected from the venue soon after)
Spike: £4.50 (to Nick and Rich from Mohawks - sold on to UCL for £5.50)
Herpes: £17 (to Tess from Roehampton - Herps remembers nothing)
Tequila: £25 (Mohawk captain sold to rivals Brunel, and made to streak during the presentation)
Felchers: £20 (to the Squaws - mainly for cheering, coaching and sideline dancing purposes)

In total we raised £71.50 for charity from the auction - great bidding!

Thanks to all the Mohawks for helping out with all the jobs during the weekend, and organising the charity match & auction.
Thanks to all the players for making this the biggest indoor women's tournament in the history of the country, I hope you had a great time and good luck to all the clubs going to represent the South at Nationals!

     From Women's news:

Below I have copied more details about this Sunday's training day in Clapham. All women welcome! It will be a great day of skills and more importantly all women GAMES!!! Hope to see lots of people out!

-Meg
Hi all

Due to the responses, it looks like Sunday will be going ahead - I promise to make it a fun day!

So - a reminder, lets start at 10am at Clapham Common. The nearest tube is Clapham South, but the GB Open Juniors will be taking up the usual pitches, so we will be across the road playing by Eagle Pond.

Here is a map.

Come out of the tube station, go straight across the road, and then cross over another road and we will play on that grass.

Don't forget - bring a black and white t-shirt, a disc, bring food and drink (although there is a tesco's nearby, we won't be stopping too long for lunch), a bin-bag in case of rain and plenty of warm clothes!

Looking forward to seeing you all there
Di

     From SEULL news:

This weekend there was an event in Brighton, with UCL and Roehampton joining the two Mohawks teams. There was enough time for every team to play every other team, in hour-long games. Things started off very close, as Roehampton beat Mohawks 2 9-8, getting their second win of the season. UCL went three points down to the Mohawks, but fought back valliantly with some solid zone and a series of scores including a callahan, eventually bringing it to sudden death, where their zone in the wind caused a number of crucial Mohawk turnovers and gave them a 9-8 victory.
Next up, UCL faced Roehampton, and were looking to get as many points as possible as the top of the table was in sight after beating the first place Mohawks. They comfortably took it 12-1.
Mohawks 2 suffered a similar fate against UCL, who were on fire, climaxing with a 15 yard World's Greatest play on a dying disc by Jack Laloe... Mohawks 2 - despite taking 6 points from Mohawks 1 - had no answer to UCL's acrobatics and were beaten to zero, whilst Roehampton got 2 against Mohawks' 12.

After a slow start, UCL are becoming the team to look out for. They are now in second place, a mere 26 points behind the Mohawks, who're still holding onto the top spot for now. Perhaps next week's games at Brunel will shuffle the top of the table around even more, as Brunel aren't in a bad position themselves...
