Charity Match:
The South West beat the South East in an exciting charity match on Sunday morning. Polly from Skunks achieved the most points with her extravagant, crowd-pleasing play, with Pole (Brunel) & Rosie (Skunks) making the most accurate bets. In total we raised £21 for charity from this match.

Mohawk Auction:
The auction was a frenzy of buying and selling of the funtime Mohawk guys;

Kimmy: £5.00 (ejected from the venue soon after)
Spike: £4.50 (to Nick and Rich from Mohawks - sold on to UCL for £5.50)
Herpes: £17 (to Tess from Roehampton - Herps remembers nothing)
Tequila: £25 (Mohawk captain sold to rivals Brunel, and made to streak during the presentation)
Felchers: £20 (to the Squaws - mainly for cheering, coaching and sideline dancing purposes)

In total we raised £71.50 for charity from the auction - great bidding!

Thanks to all the Mohawks for helping out with all the jobs during the weekend, and organising the charity match & auction.
Thanks to all the players for making this the biggest indoor women's tournament in the history of the country, I hope you had a great time and good luck to all the clubs going to represent the South at Nationals!

pps. as an apology, please accept these 18-team, 6-qualifying tournament format images, and start getting (more) excited...

Hey everyone,

Here it is! Everything you need to know about Uni Southern Women's Indoor Regionals this weekend, in one neat file! We will have printed copies of the captain's pack available on the day, but you might want to print it out now to show your team etc before the weekend.

Points of note:

We're playing by the OLD pull rules, so dropped pulls are turnovers, no 2m-high boxes or anything - take the pull from the line where it slid/bounced out, middle it if it flew out, or bring it to the front of the endzone if it went out the back.

There will be a meal for all on Saturday night at the party venue, starting at 7pm, which won't give you much time to get ready as games finish at 6pm! Tickets for the party cost £2, but amazingly this includes £5 worth of food per ticket.

Fancy dress for the party is Cowgirls and Indians!

If your details are missing from the accomodation page then get in touch ASAP!

We will be serving sandwiches, pasta and snacks very cheap in the hall on both Saturday and Sunday, so no need to bring a packed lunch.

If you're having trouble with the attached file then try:

Good morning Women's captains and relevant other parties of the South!

For the keen ones among you who have read the captains pack, you will have noticed the special feature of this weekends tournament is the 'brunch' on Sunday morning! After lengthy consultation, the Mohawks and Squaws have decided that this time is best spent on a charity-all-star-match-featuring-excellence.

This means....

you select a player from your team (possibly yourself) to play with and against other such people.

During Brunch, that player will play an all-star pick up game outside on the squaws usual pitch, accumulating points for (but not limited to) scoring, assisting, lay-outs, point blocks etc, including your 'special-move'...

your 'special-move' is like a trick throw/catch/ layout-point block callahan, that you tell us beforehand/ email me, and you will get extra points if you do it in the game.

Bets are placed on who will perform best (each better gets to pick three players, and the players scores are added together), the money raised goes to charity.

A prize will be awarded to the best player and the one who had the best bet on who would perform best.

This means...

One player from your team will need to bring outdoor kit, like boots or something You will have to play with opponents you may have just beaten/ lost to, a.k.a. your deadly enemies There will be more heckling than was ever thought imaginable from the sideline.

It'd be appreciated if you could email me telling me who is playing for your team and what their special move is as soon as you know, because we ourselves have left this all a bit late in organising.

cheers guys, and spread the word, as everyone needs to know!!!!

Hey again,

For those of you who're enjoying our company for not just one, but TWO nights, note that the plan for most people on Friday is to meet their hosts in Falmer Bar on campus. (Uriel you will have to ask Sarah yourselves - her no. is 07725 579146).
See page 6 of the captain's pack for a map to the pub. Falmer House is just up and to the right of the sportscentre, and the entrance is near where it says 'USSU'.

Don't forget to bring outdoors kit for your charity match representative!

Ladies of Uni Ultimate,

I'm overjoyed to announce the Uni Southern Women's Indoor Qualifiers will be held in Brighton on 28/29th January.
Accomodation will be provided by the most hospitable Squaws & Mohawks of Sussex Uni, there'll be cheap food (50p sandwiches) & drink on sale throughout both days, and a party of Mohawk & Squaw proportions - all for the rarely seen non-ridiculous fee of £90 per team.

Make sure you write on the back of any non-union cheques:
Team name
Cheque guarantee number (card number)
Expiry date
Contact number

Make them payable to USSU and send them to:

Felix Shardlow
35 Edburton Avenue
Brighton
BN1 6EL

I will accept 'holding' cheques because some universities aren't in term time - just attach a note asking me not to pay it in yet and I'll hold onto your space. Deadline for entries is 15th January!

Also email me with numbers/days for accomodation & to confirm your entry & contact details. I'll be sending out more info later, but you can always check the website at http://www.seultimate.org to satisfy your information desires for the meanwhile.

If your club doesn't have enough women for a full team then you should've already been contacted by me with a suggestion for who you could join up with. If you don't and I haven't, then get in touch (Mwnci See, Picnic, UWE)! I'm running a No Woman Left Behind policy for this years' regionals, so whoever you are, wherever you are, you'll be able to play. Unless you're not southern, natch.

To recap, that's £90 a team, and:

Who: Ladies of the Southern Universities (SE & SW)

What: University Southern Women's Indoor Regionals (U-SWIR)

Where: Sussex University, Falmer, Brighton

When: 28th & 29th January

Why: To decide the top 6 southern women's uni teams for Nationals

How: Catch the frisbee in the end zone more times than the other team, score score score!

Online now is the Brunel Women's video of frisbee, fun and frolics, taken from various women's events over the 04-05 season.
It's three and a half minutes long and contains some women's ultimate action, lots of random clips, some funny stuff, some bendy stuff and loads of photos, all to a catchy soundtrack. Gives us a taste of what to expect from the Brunel Flair Women's team this year at regionals. Gemma says:
Its a quick highlight of the high's and lows of Brunel Flair 04/05 + friends. It was made as something for us to keep so that we never forget the best year in the teams history... yeah Flair! + everybody needs to own a bad picture of Becky!!
The footage was taken by Gemma Taylor and compiled by Matt Gorham, so check it out without delay to up your anticipation of USWIR even further, and provide an insight into an active, successful SE women's team!

05.12.05
Communications are currently in progress regarding a possible showgame of Bliss vs Iceni, the UK's two best women's teams, outside the sportscentre after the games on Saturday before it gets dark. Does that sound amazingly awesome or what?

05.12.05
I've decided to slightly re-word the tournament title so it can be called USWIR instead of SWUIR, which is identical to a South-West event. Ü-swîr is taking form quickly, as plenty of teams are getting back to me with details about how many players they're likely to be able to bring. A suprising number of teams want to bring two, sometimes three teams, so there is a slim possibility USWIR will be oversubscribed - it's my ambition to enable participation from every woman in the south, so we're going to do whatever we can to ensure maximum players have maximum pitch time on the 28/29 January.

Some South-West teams have gotten back to me, I'm expecting a whole load more responses this week from the likes of Skunks and Picnic, with whom I spoke in Southampton this weekend. Once all the teams have been paired up with others to make ideal numbers, I'll announce that I'm accepting cheques and once it's full I'll announce the seedings and everything, so you can really start making some preparations and getting to know how your teammates play better!

Note that all applications for the eligibility of cross-institution teams must be received before 14th Jan, so you'll probably have to sort it out over the christmas break. Keep checking your emails and let me know if there's an address you check more often over the holidays. It should all be straightforward - I'll make suggestions for which clubs to team up with & if you both agree then a few names have to be put on a form & you're done.

Brunel Women's video coming soon...

Women's Regionals is on its way!

That's right, history is going to be made, as the first ever Southern Women's University Indoor Regionals is going to be held on 28/29th January at Sussex University, Falmer, Brighton. We're hoping to have at least 16 teams in attendance, women from as far west as Plymouth to as far east as Norwich will all be congregating in Brighton for two days of all-female intense Ultimate and awesome partying with each other & their hosts the Mohawks.

I intend to keep updating this website with all the info I have, a completely transparent process, so your anticipation can steadily grow as everything starts falling into place for the biggest women's tournament the south has ever seen. If this isn't enough, in a few days I'll be uploading a video of Brunel Women's Ultimate made by Gemma - it'll make you laugh and cry, and leave you wanting more.
For now, here's an email sent to all the teams in the south, encouraging them to work out their numbers now to ensure the maximum number of women possible get to play at regionals. If your club only has a few women, you can team up with another university to help them field a full team. So, book those minibuses, get those names onto lists for the 28/29th January, and get emailing me!
Now the Uni Indoor Regionals is out of the way (I hope you enjoyed it), it's time to focus on Women's Regionals. You may or may not know that history is being made - this year sees the first ever qualifiers for a national Women's event in the UK. With the massive growth of women's ultimate, this development is crucial and a huge step forwards for the women's game.

We really need to make sure that all uni female players get a chance to play in the southern regionals on 28/29 January in Brighton. By now you probably have a good idea about who on your team will be up for it, so I'd like you to tell me whether you'll definitely be entering a team of your own, whether you *might* struggle for players (say you only have 4-6 definites), or whether you'll definitely need to join forces with another club to make up the numbers.

If it looks like you'll have to join up, then let me know if there's any team which you know particularly well, or you got on with well at Ladder League, who would be your first choice to team up with. After your response I'll gather the others together and team people up to make everyone happy, & give everyone the chance to play.

Please please PLEASE reply to this email prompty, maybe after a little communication to your teammates if you're not sure on their commitments, and let me know so we can get this all sorted early, and give players who'll be picking up for teams they don't know the chance to arrange a Ladder League event so they can meet them before the (awesome) tournament kicks off.

Look forward to hearing from you soon!

And for anyone who is as excited as I am, enough to read down this far, here's a treat: Jen from Sublime tells us how she has run the women's club in the first term to be able to enter two women's teams into regionals;
Overall we recruited (including returning players) 139 people this season...so quite a lot! Mostly guys...but if my memory serves me correctly, we recruited about 20 odd fresher girls initially. But as always we lost loads from the beginning..as indoors was crowded and it was wet and windy for the 1st 4/5 Wednesday afternoon trainings!

So I've actually only got 6/7 freshers that i think are now def gonna stay and experienced wise only a coupla peeps left last season so still got about 11/12..of these 15/16 I see 10/11 very regulary...and then the others come a bit more randomly and for socials!

So yeh..at freshers fayre all the experienced players came down to recruit, we had players chucking around outside, we had a slot on the radio for 10 mins where the president talked about the club and we demonstrated some drills, we had people who talked all day to people wandering past about the game, we had a video playing of worlds I think, or a roadie film (can't remember exactly)..we had a massive poster behind us with some piccys on it and our club name, we were all in kit and as it was one of the cheapest clubs to join we just attracted loads of peeps!
We are a very social club and go out every Wednesday at least...we have a pub who basically put food on for us if we get a big group down for free, which is cool..we also have traditional pubcrawls (freshers and halloween) and our xmas meal coming up. We've had a couple of separate girls socials as well which are always popular!
We also train lots which encourages a lot of people as they can just turn up to what they can (2 indoor and 2 outdoor every week plus separate sprint training)..the trainings are mixed but on the outdoor session I always take the girls separately for a drill or 2 just so the team can bond more..and sometimes we play as a team in the games at the end of trgs..
As we couldnt get into Damme Slamme this weekend I organised a girls outdoor training weekend, there were 10 of us and we went through all the plays, did forcing etc...did lots of drills and games which benefited us loads..we've also booked a coupla of indoor sessions before regionals so we can practice together, with some of the guys helping us. All the girls are really keen tho, and play/party hard..
Its hard sometimes to play separately and with the guys, esp as I want to train the girls for our own competitons but don't want to alienate them either as there's a few of us who want to push for the 1st/2nd open teams this year...I think we've got the balance right so far..
